Staff
Octopus Reef is owned and operated by Rene Umberger and Lynn Allen, both of whom are PADI and SDI SCUBA Instructors. They are recognized not only for working with divers at all levels of comfort and experience, but also for their special relationships with marine animals and their abilities to attract and locate them. From snorkel tours to SCUBA instruction or custom guided dives, this talented staff offers many gifts that will make you too, feel at home in the sea!
Rene Umberger is a marine life "a'fish'ionado". In the early 80's, Rene (who was then afraid of FISH!) was welcomed into the sea by a patient SCUBA instructor and the wonderful marine critters. After getting certified, and then becoming an instructor, teaching diving and sharing the ocean realm with others became her passion. In 1995 she was awarded the esteemed Platinum Pro 5000 Card. Her understanding of exactly what's required for each of us to learn to dive and be comfortable underwater, along with her deep connections with all marine life have allowed her to guide many to the treasures awaiting them in the sea.
Lynn
Allen Ph.D. is a water baby who taught herself to surf when she was
nine. Propelled by her sense of adventure and her love of the ocean, she
learned to dive in La Jolla, CA, before moving to Maui to work in the
dive industry. Lynn has integrated her professional experiences as a Physical
Education instructor and as a Cell Biologist at an innovative Biotechnology
company with her deep love for the ocean. Now, as a Master SCUBA Diver
Trainer, she combines her experiences with movement, biology, and the
ocean, and shares valuable insights about their interconnections.
Since
becoming a certified diver at the age of 10, the underwater world has
always brought Victoria Martocci joy; sharing that joy with others
is her passion. Over the past five years, Victoria has been a valuable
part of the Octopus Reef team, providing a safe, fun and educational atmosphere
for visitors to Maui’s ocean. Her dedication to creating a deeper
understanding and appreciation for the marine environment is evident in
each of her interactions.
